Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., founded in 1980 by Ken Grossman in Chico, California, is widely regarded as one of the primary catalysts for the American craft beer revolution.
The brewery is best known for its flagship Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. First brewed in 1980, this genre-defining beer popularised the use of American Cascade hops, introducing drinkers to the bold, piney, and grapefruit-forward flavour profile that became the hallmark of West Coast brewing.
Despite its massive scale which now includes a second state-of-the-art facility in Mills River, North Carolina. Sierra Nevada remains an independent, family-owned operation. Beyond its beer, the company is highly respected within the industry for its pioneering sustainability practices, including extensive solar power usage, water reclamation, and zero-waste-to-landfill initiatives.
